Why this story matters
The project documents Charles P. “Chuck” Eisenmann, his dogs, his ideas, and their work in film, television and public demonstrations. Many people remember The Littlest Hobo; fewer know the individual dogs or the man whose life became so closely bound to them. This is a history of those lives and partnerships, not primarily an episode guide.
How we tell it
Chuck’s own words, contemporary reporting, publicity, surviving records, personal memories and later accounts each tell us something different. We ask what each can actually establish. Where the picture remains uncertain, we leave the question open rather than fill the gap by assumption. Our Research and Sources pages explain more without interrupting every story page.
Photographs and image credits
The Hobo Story is an independent, non-commercial project dedicated to remembering Chuck Eisenmann and his remarkable dogs.
Historical photographs, publicity images and newspaper clippings help bring their story to life. We aim to identify their origins and credit photographers and rights holders wherever possible.
If you own the rights to an image featured here, or can help us identify or credit a photograph, please get in touch. We welcome corrections and will review any concerns promptly, including requests for removal.
A living project
The Hobo Story is not affiliated with or endorsed by the rights holders of The Littlest Hobo film or television programmes. It can grow and improve when new material comes to light. Recollections, corrections, photographs and historical documents are welcome through the Memories page.
